Here it is. ✨The Yuba River print is now available. “We Can Rainbow Bridge Our Hearts Together.” The original piece was made with acrylic and metal leaf on a wood panel. The sun/moon is copper and the river silver. Link in my bio. Thank you!
Hey! 👋🏼 I started a new IG page called @tourettes_etc We can’t separate our life into little boxes, I know, but I have so much content to share. Awareness, advocacy, funnies, hardships, ideas, science, lol’s... This is all driving me more than art at the moment. I’m learning so much about neurodiversity, surviving the high needs experience and about myself. So give it a follow if this speaks to you. ⚡️Also⚡️I’m still me and couldn’t stop making art if I tried. So a little heads up... tomorrow I’m releasing the Yuba River print that so many of you swooned over. (thank you 💙) So circle back and meanwhile seize the day! #tourettesyndrome #touretteawareness #tourettes
This is our boy Judah Coleman Aginsky. A photo from several years back. He’s now days away from being 10 and was diagnosed with Tourette’s Syndrome this past winter. I’ve decided to share this with all of you, mainly to spread awareness and be an advocate for him. But also to inform many of our friends and family on his behalf. 💞
Tourette Syndrome (TS) is a neurological disorder that typically begins in utero and is lifelong. It is characterized by a combination of motor tics (blinking, shrugging, jumping) and vocal tics (throat clearing, squeaks, humming). It also typically involves increased Anxiety, OCD and ADHD. It is commonly stigmatized by the yelling and swearing component (Coprolalia) that is more rare. TS symptoms blossom and are heightened during adolescence and tend to fade away or become more easily managed after 15-16. But not always.
So yes, we had a really rough time a few months ago. Judah’s anxiety went through the roof and he barely left the house for about a month. His tics at times ravaged his body. He had no relief. He was afraid he was dying.
But we are more stable now. We three are learning to manage the challenging symptoms and behaviors we experience daily in our home. We currently have no easy days. But we have better days. We have awesome moments. Right now our peaks are higher and our valleys are lower than they were before.
I do know this: it’s a real heartbreak raising children. We cannot fix everything for them. No matter how much we love them. This is ultimately their journey. And I know this too: our son has always been a bright light, full of enthusiasm and ideas. He will be ok. On a good day, we all can see that Tourette’s is a gift. A real mixed bag. But not a curse.
So. It was just #tourettesawarenessmonth and I have found many amazing people living with this disorder right here on IG. I’m so inspired by their courage. Check out: @chloe_tic and @tourettes_teacher and @sincerelytourettes and @touretteassociation
I’m considering dedicating a separate IG page to our experience with Tourette’s. I have so much more to share. 💙
